What is a Discovery Flight in San Diego?

A Discovery Flight, also known as an introductory flight or demo flight, are for those interested to pursue a Private Pilot License. In the Discovery Flight, your FAA-certified instructor will lead you through the same steps that every pilot takes before they take to the sky. Whether you've always dreamt of becoming a pilot or simply want to enjoy the scenic beauty of San Diego from above, a Discovery Flight is the best choice.

First, you’ll start with a preflight brief in which your instructor will brief you about the flight process. Next, you’ll step out to the airplane where your instructor will give you an introduction to the airplane.

After the introduction, you’ll strap into the left seat, where you’ll have panoramic views and your own stick, rudder pedals, and throttle — which you’ll soon get to use.

Your instructor will demonstrate standard ground operations and a picture-perfect takeoff.  Once safely airborne and away — it’ll be your time to fly.

You’ll be able to bank, turn, climb, and descend while piloting the plane. Your instructor will give you some pointers on what to do and where to go, but the flight is yours.

Once you’ve had a chance to experience the thrill of flying on your own, your instructor will lead you back to the airport where he’ll land the plane. Your total time in the air will be approximately 60 minutes.

At that point, you’ve done it!  You’re now among the ranks of those training to be pilots.
